Purchasing Fabric

  • Observe fabrics for any flaws, such as holes, discolouration, and patterns that are not uniform.

  • Ensure that fabric is of the width that was advertised.

  • Observe measuring sticks. They should have metal clips at both ends. Sticks held together with tape must not be used, as there is a possibility that they may not be the correct length.

  • Ensure that the sales clerk measure the fabric correctly and that you receive the correct amount requested.

  • Where possible, look at the fabrics in natural light or white florescent light to ensure that it is the colour you want.

  • Always be informed of the type of fabric you are purchasing and its care instructions. Some merchants have a fabric care guide at the back of the bill.

  • Ensure that your bill has pertinent information in relation to your purchase- the name and address of the establishment, date of purchase, the quality of fabric, the type of fabric, its width and cost must be stated on the bill.

  • Keep all bills as proof of purchase in the event that you encounter problems with the item.

Remember, the power is yours!
