Securing Your Car
Consumers, we are currently in the middle of the Carnival season. You will be going to fetes, mas camps and calypso tents but when driving to these places parking may be a problem and you may have to park on the roadside rather than a parking lot. However, when you return you may discover that your car has been broken into or worse it is not there! To avoid becoming a victim, we are pleased to provide you with the following tips on securing your car:
- Lock your car.
- Never hide a spare key on the vehicle.
- Roll up windows completely.
- Remove keys from ignition.
- Park in well-lighted areas.
- When parking in attended lots or parking garages, leave only the ignition key with the attendant.
- Park as close as possible to an open business.
- Do not leave valuables in sight to tempt a thief.
- Back your car into the driveway. If you drive forward into the driveway, a car thief could raise the hood to hot wire the car, and it would appear to the neighbours that you were just working on the car.
- If you have a garage, use it.
- Lock your garage door.
- When going out of town, if possible, remove the distributor cap or the coil wire.
- Never leave your car running while it is unattended.
Consumers, try not to become too overwhelmed with the traditions of the seasons. Take your time with whatever you do and be safe. Taking a couple of extra minutes to secure your car or home will give you a sense of security when you are out and also should save you in the long run.
Remember, the power is yours!
