Do Not Be a Victim of Fraud
As a savvy consumer you must always be on the alert for unscrupulous persons who want to separate you from your money. To protect your money and avoid being a victim of fraud, keep these things in mind:
- Don't be dazzled by discounts - If a venue is routinely offering unbelievable discounts of 50% or more or "buy one get one free", the sale is probably just that, "unbelievable". Usually this "drastic discount" price is actually the normal retail price elsewhere or there may be conditions attached that are not stated up front.
- A deal that sounds too good to be true usually is! Offers that often fall into this category are promises to fix your credit problems, low-interest credit cards, deals that let you skip credit card payments, business/job opportunities, risk-free investments and free travel.
- Think twice before sharing personal information. Protect your privacy and avoid unauthorized use of your personal information.
- Home and auto repairs are the subjects of frequent complaints. Second opinions are especially important when you are dealing with repair servicepersons whom you do not know.
Remember, the power is yours!
