Making Wise Purchasing Decisions
Before making purchases, decide on:
What you want;
How much you want;
How much you want to spend.
Do not buy on impulse. Make a shopping list and stick to it. Set spending limits, especially for major purchases.
Do not get caught up with appealing television advertisements. It is better to rely on proven and established facts. Put your trust in products of proven quality and reliability.
Research the product before purchasing
When you've decided on the product you want:
Comparison shop to get the best price;
Check the company's reputation before making purchases. Do they have a good after sales service?
Examine the product carefully;
Consider all costs when buying a product. If you are buying on credit, check the cost of credit. There is no such thing as "free credit".
To avoid being misled, read and understand all sales contracts before signing them. If in doubt, don't sign. Check with someone capable of giving an accurate interpretation.
Ensure that you understand the store's or firm's refund and exchange policies.
Check warranties to determine the type of warranty, that is, full or limited, and what parts are covered.
Save all documentation pertaining to the purchase such as receipts, contracts and invoices. In the event of problems with the merchandise, these can be used as proof of purchase.
