PRINCIPLES AND PRIORITIES OF CONSUMER POLICY:
P. PHARMACEUTICALS
- Principles
- Pharmaceuticals which are necessary for health-care and the well being of the nation should be of good quality, be available in adequate quantities and be affordable.
- Priorities
- To support the United Nations proposal for an International Code of Ethics for the Pharmaceutical Industry including the availability of information on items which have been banned, withdrawn or severely restricted in other countries;
- To implement appropriate measures for the registration of all importers of pharmaceuticals to ensure that in cases of adverse effects arising from their use, such pharmaceuticals can be recalled;
- To ensure that the prices of the items on the National Essential Drugs (Pharmaceutical) List be displayed for the information of consumers of all retail outlets;
- To ensure that pharmaceuticals are not sold after their expiry dates.
