PRINCIPLES AND PRIORITIES OF CONSUMER POLICY:

E. CONSUMER EDUCATION

  1. Principles
    1. The consumer should have access to education which will enable him/her to acquire the knowledge and skills to make informed choices and take appropriate action where necessary in his/her own interest and that of the country.
  2. Priorities
    1. To initiate and facilitate the development of consumer education that would meet the needs of society, and especially the needs of the disabled, women, the youth and other vulnerable groups within the society;
    2. To encourage the business sector to participate in consumer education programmes;
    3. To ensure that consumer education programmes are developed within the context of our cultural traditions. Use of already accepted cultural means of expression will provide a channel to disseminate essential messages on consumer rights and responsibilities;
    4. To integrate consumer education at all levels of the formal education system;
    5. To promote the establishment of consumer Action Groups which will serve as a medium for the dissemination of Consumer Education to areas in the community not reached by the regular methods of communication.
