The public is hereby warned that unsafe Christmas tree lights are being offered for sale. These lights are of cheap constructions and pose risk of fire and electric shock, which can cause injury of death. Children will be particularly vulnerable to these hazards. Some of these lights carry a counterfeit UL sticker, in order to deceive the purchaser.

The genuine sticker is silver in colour carries, a control number and the word "listed" next to the UL logo. The counterfeit stickers are white and bear only the Logo.

DO NOT PURCHASE THESE LIGHTS. If you have already purchased any such lights, return them to the store where they were bought, and request a full refund.

The Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of Standards will be moving swiftly to take action against the importers and retailers of these lights, and advises that retailers of such products should remove them from display immediately, as they do not comply with the compulsory standard TTS 486:1993 - Christmas Tree and Decorative Lighting Outfits.

Traders who fail to comply are subject to a fine of fifteen thousand dollars ($15, 000.00) and imprisonment for (2) years.
