Public Warning

SECURITY ALERT

As a matter of urgent public interest, we wish to issue for your immediate consideration a security message regarding the increased number of crime reports which we have received over the past 14 days.

Apart from the constant and tragic loss of life due to gun violence and the horrific number of accidents and road deaths, we are also receiving countless reports of ordinary citizens being accosted, assaulted and robbed on a regular basis during daylight hours and particularly, on busy public streets.

The number of reports are too various and too numerous to categorize.

At least 60% to 65% of these reports involve women being attacked at green grocers, re-entering their homes and returning to their cars.

Men have been robbed of their personal belongings and their cars and we also have multiple reports of daylight robberies of maxi taxis in the east/west corridor. These incidents have occurred during daylight hours on regular working days in full view of members of the public and the perpetrators have not been masked or disguised.

In some cases, we have been informed that young women have been among the perpetrators involved in the incidents. We wish to advise that caution be exercised at all times and that persons returning to their cars or entering their homes should not do so if they notice persons seated in cars parked nearby. Do not be lured into a sense of security if women are among those lurking in your vicinity.

Caution should also be exercised by persons before leaving their cars.

We once again wish to emphasize the danger involved in stopping at roadside green grocers to buy market produce and other merchandise.

We cannot speculate as to the reasons for this period of heightened attacks, but we feel that it is imperative that we advise of the need for vigilance and awareness at your place of business, at your homes and when driving on our nations roads.

We regret the need for this type of communication at a time when so many other areas of national activity require attention, but we consider security matters to be an issue of fundamental priority and we shall continue to focus on this while the need exists.

Please be assured of our best attention at all times and please be alert and vigilant in everything that you do.
